Using frameless glass helped us achieve the desired look of the owners for their wine room. It is more costly than utilizing thick glass because a wine refrigeration system with a higher cooling capacity had to be used to compensate for the lack of insulation or R-value. The Blue Grouse team performed a heat load calculation, which is a vital process for determining the correct size of wine cooling unit required for a wine cellar.
Minimalist Yet Classy Wine Racks Designed for a Contemporary Custom Wine Cellar in Vancouver
Designing wine racks require skills, knowledge, and creativity, considering all the significant factors that will affect the appearance and functionality of the racking. In this Vancouver custom wine cellar, Blue Grouse Wine Cellars aimed to create a stunning display of the client’s prized collection and maximize the storage capacity of the curved room.
Custom Millwork Designed with Style and Functionality
Blue Grouse Wine Cellars installed Red Oak millwork, creating a classy ambiance in this Vancouver custom wine cellar in Vancouver. The owners showed the Blue Grouse team a sample of their preferred wood finish. A custom stain and lacquer finish were applied on the wine racks, satisfying the requests of the couple.
The custom millwork consists of an arch opening at the top section, lit beautifully to highlight a few bottles and some decanters. A 3-level rectangular opening was included above the arch for storing magnum bottles in a label-forward configuration. Blue Grouse Wine Cellars added an LED-lit high-reveal display row that holds the bottles at a 15-degree angle to keep the corks moist.
The bottom section consists of rectangular and diamond bins, which are intended for bulk storage. This racking style is recommended for wine collectors who buy wines in cases. It offers better wine organization because the owners can place the same varieties of wines in each bin. Locating a specific type of wine will be easier. Each bin can accommodate eight bottles in a neck-forward orientation. Wines in cases can be placed in rectangular bins.
Creating VINdustry Peg Hardware to Create the Illusion of Floating Bottles
Blue Grouse Wine Cellars incorporated peg wine racks on both sides of the arch opening at the top section. Provided by VINdustry, the racking consists of durable 3-bottles deep pegs applied with a black anodized aluminum finish. It also has an anchor bolt used to mount the pegs through the millwork.
Lighting System
This beautiful contemporary custom wine cellar in Vancouver deserves to be illuminated using a safe and dramatic lighting system. Blue Grouse installed LED lights in the archway and display row. Pot lights were placed on the ceiling. LED lights emit a minimal amount of heat and subtle lighting.
Wine Cellar Cooling System
Blue Grouse wine cellars installed the 4200VSi model from CellarPro using ducting kits and hoods. It is engineered to provide maximum cooling efficiency and was the perfect option for a Vancouver contemporary custom wine cellar with a glass enclosure.
