The team installed floor-to-ceiling wood wine racks on the left and sidewalls, creating an ample amount of space in between them for moving around the wine room. The racking design has a bottle capacity of 334 bottles.
Both walls have the same racking styles, including individual wine racks at the top and bottom sections. There is an arch display at the center of each wall that adds character to the traditional home wine cellar in Vancouver. It comes with a countertop for storing a few more bottles of wine. Above it are diamond bins for bulk storage. Underneath the countertop are rectangular bins for wooden cases.
A display row runs horizontally through the middle of the walls, highlighting some of the favorite bottles of the client. This section pitches the bottles at an angle to keep the cork in contact with the wine.
The wood wine racks are made from Knotty Alder with a rich brown stain. To achieve a rustic appeal, the wood was unlacquered. Knotty Alder is a wood species popular for its beautiful grain patterns.
There is a door on each end of the wine room that allows the client and her guests to walk straight through the wine cellar. The features that make this wine room cathedral-like are the chandelier and the elevated ceiling.
A Classic Design for a Home Wine Cellar Using Wood Wine Racks
Blue Grouse Wine Cellars completed another project in Vancouver where they transformed a small wine cabinet into a traditional home wine cellar with a higher bottle capacity. The wine room built in a condominium is packed with elegant features, including the wood wine racks consisting of different racking styles.
Originally, the owners had a 3-door custom wine cabinet in their open-plan living/dining room. They decided to seek the help of the Blue Grouse team. The space was reconfigured and enlarged.
The sidewalls have a mirrored racking, consisting of individual wine racks at the top and diamond bins at the bottom. Blue Grouse Wine Cellars included a shaker-style wine cabinet on the lower section of the back wall that hides the wine cooling unit evaporator. Above it are shallow shelves that hide the flexible ducting of the refrigeration system and act as a storage area for the client’s liquor bottles. The racking system also includes a display row that runs along the middle of the three walls and a label-forward display on each end of the wall.
The wood wine racks were made from Walnut, a wood known for its high durability, strength, and versatility. The wood exhibits attractive grain patterns with colors ranging from light to dark brown.
